We spoke with our colleague Eric Derksen about Serious Fun. Eric Derksen is a Network Consultant. Whatever outing, event, or gathering is organized at YaWorks, Eric is there.
"Whatever is organized, I'm always there. For the fun, but also because it puts you back in touch with other YaWorkers. During the outings, you get to know your colleagues better. Which client are you working with, what challenges are you facing? But many other topics come up as well. From conversations about the situation at home to just shooting the breeze.
When you work hard together, it's also good to have fun together. You see this not only in the outings but also in how development is encouraged. Over the years, I've obtained various certificates and attended different trade shows. For Cisco Live, I was in Las Vegas for 10 days, and that's not just all work, of course. It's really great that I got this opportunity; it's still one of my best experiences.
At an organization like YaWorks, that combination of professional development and fun is important. I'm hardly ever at the office and usually only see other YaWorkers when we're doing something fun. That way, you still feel part of the company. The best outing? The annual ski trip is always a highlight. From beginning to end, it's very enjoyable. And when you later work together on an assignment, you already know each other, which makes working together more pleasant as well."
